Our Wealth Management Consultative Process

Managing wealth can be complex and time-consuming. Successful wealth management depends on a consultative process – The Schaefer Financial Group uses the following systematic consulting process to uncover your most important goals for designing and implementing appropriate solutions for your financial success and peace of mind.


During our first meeting, we will conduct a discovery interview. This helps us identify the challenges you face in achieving all that is important to you. We examine your current situation, the goals you would like to achieve and how we can maximize the possibility of achieving those goals.  Through this process we help you make smart financial decisions for your future.

Investment Plan

At our second meeting, we will let you know what you are doing well and what you could be doing better. We will present our diagnostic of your current situation and walk through the investment plan to make sure we have captured where you are now and where you want to go.  We will then help you understand how we can bridge the gaps and the steps we would recommend you take for you to reach your goals.  This plan forms the foundation of all of our work together.

Mutual Commitment

You are ready to make a mutual decision about working together with The Schaefer Financial Group and understand how our team can add substantial value.  We make a mutual commitment to each other to work toward achieving everything that is important to you and your family.  Depending on your specific needs, account paperwork will then be drawn up for your signature.  We execute the documents necessary to put your investment plan into motion.

Wealth Plan

A complete plan will be written up and reviewed with you. Depending on needs identified during the planning process, the plan will include investments, retirement needs, estate planning* and tax planning, along with an action plan for you to follow. We will work with your professionals, such as your lawyer and accountant, to help put the action plan into effect. If you don’t have a professional network, we can refer you to someone who can help you.

45 Day Follow Up

When you have multiple investment accounts, it’s easy to become overwhelmed with the amount of paperwork you receive. We want to simplify this process by addressing all aspects of your financial well-being.  At our follow up meeting, we help you organize all of that paperwork in a personalized binder that we provide. We also answer any questions you may have so that you understand exactly what is happening with your money.

Regular Progress Updates

These meetings, which we schedule at intervals convenient to you, provide us an opportunity to review any major changes in your personal or financial situation since our last meeting. If these changes mean that we need to make adjustments to your investment plan, we do so. We also review your overall progress toward your long-term financial goals. Getting together is also our opportunity to implement advanced planning recommendations that may be appropriate for your situation.
